I celebrated my New Year on a plane, returning from my two weeks holiday break. The year 2012 greeted me with a very hot summer. It has been high 30s for the past couple of days (yesterday was hitting 40) in Melbourne. My car was heated up like a microwave and the steering wheel is scorching hot. Not funny at all.

As it has been predicted by the ancient Mayans, 2012 is the year where the world is going end. Let’s see how it goes.

I’ve seen a fair few of branding on eggs but during my photoshoot at a commercial kitchen last week, I found some with a happy face on it. After staring at the adorable smiling oval little fella, you don’t feel like breaking them up huh?

P.S Of course the chef we worked with didn’t share the same sentiment and turned them into a cake.

Checking the codes reviewed nothing much but a poorly constructed HTML and trying to reach their main site returns an HTTP 403 Forbidden response. Now I do not recall there’s a courier or a shipping facility provider calling themselves ‘extremegoodies.com’ and judging from the way they present their ‘website’, it is obviously a fake. A fake package-shipping-tracking-site. Not sure why they pull out a half-bake effort into such a site, perhaps they are trying to offer a false sense of security to the buyer?
Good thing I bought an item that has a negligible value from these people. If I don’t receive it within 2 weeks, boy I’m contemplating to give a negative feedback.

Found a rupiah note in a Kopiko packet this morning. Lucky me. As of today, 5000 rupiah is around AUD$0.20

For example, today is 11th January 2011 and I’ll accidentally type in 11th January 2010. Imagine I’m entering the wrong date for my SQL lines. Bet it’ll misquery and produce the odd results. I say it’s a habit thingy. I’m so used to the previous year that I will, without a blink of an eye, type out 2010 instantaneously. I suppose that’s fine. I wouldn’t want to think about entering wrong dates especially the year at critical moments like during a financial transaction.

It’ll take a while for me to familiarise with this young 2011, say within a month I reckon. But by early next year, I’ll be facing the same thing again. Sigh.

I am ”pleased” that iPhone4 has arrived for the “devoted” and “deserving” staff members in the office. With it, we shall have plenty of business/sales coming in and make tons of money. Behold, the powerful aura of Apple products!

Anyways, I went to see a doctor. Good news was, it’s only a sprained lower back as suspected and it’ll take a bit of time to heal. In the mean time, she suggested me a few back exercise techniques to speed up the healing and maybe consult a chiropractor. Before I left the medical centre, I was just asking if there is a possibility of a slipped disc. She scoffed off the idea and said if it really is, my legs would be very weak and feel some tingling sensation (like Spidey?).

She ended up the conversation, “Don’t worry, it’s just mechanical”. For a split second I thought I was consulting a  robotic engineer and felt like a cyborg. Medical jargons, huh.

Lady A: “Good morning, XXXX. This is Lady A speaking”
Me: “Good morning, I would like to make an appointment.”
Lady A: “I’m sorry sir; you are in Sydney. We’re based in Melbourne.”
Me: “Um, I am residing in Melbourne.”
Lady A: “Sir, but your number is in Sydney.”
Me: “Oh, I’m using a VOIP phone. Think it points the call from Sydney.”
Lady A: “Huh?”

This is classic. Anyways, I managed to make that appointment after clearing up the confusion.

You’ll see him strolling happily into our department, greets us, invades to my teammate’s table and grabs a piece of tissue. He’ll blow his nose with a loud “pfffft” and walks away. Sometimes you may hear a “thank you” echoed in the corridor.

Over the weekend, my mum called. Usually, there is at least a hint of advice embedded in her usual 15 minutes plus conversations. This time it was short and pretty much random.

Mom: “Son, I just want to let you know this. One, do not talk on a mobile phone when you are driving. Two, do not talk on a mobile phone when you are crossing roads”
Me: “Uh, ok.”
Mom: “Pass this message to your sister as well. That’s it, bye”.

Of course I picked my employer’s website and sent an email via Outlook, masking the actual web address with the prank web address (for example, http://bacolicio.us/http://www.google.com) to my colleagues and my boss.

Within an hour, my boss freaked out. He called everyone in the office to check including some colleagues who did not receive my prank email (this made him more panic than ever).

Boss: “Did you see the bacon on our website?”
Dude X: “No. I didn’t see anything. The website is fine.”
Boss: “!!!!”

I was wrong.

The staff that served me shattered my imagination. He was seated behind the glass wall and for the sake of security, conversations where done via the mic/speaker and a small slit hole to pass documents. I digressed. Let’s get to the point.

He looked like a typical asian movie gangster; dark skinned, wearing a thick chain necklace, semi tight ’business’ shirt with exposed chest and crew cut hair. When I approached him, he almost like he wanna pounce on me and whack me good. I guess there is a reason why the glass wall is installed.
